Wayne Gideons was a two year letterman and Co-Captain of the Hillsborough High School Football Team and was honored as “All-City,” offensive center in 1967. Univ. of Pennsylvania and Presbyterian College offered scholarships, because of family hardships after high school, Wayne traveled around the world on merchant ships (2yrs.) and spent time during the Vietnam War carrying jet fuel along the coast of Vietnam to military bases aboard USNS Millicoma Tanker. University of South Dakota offered scholarship(1970) but he joined Marine Corp Reserve and was unable to move because of commitment. While on active status the Marine Corp. offered him to play on the Quantico Marine football team which required an extension of 6 years on active duty. Mr. Gideons played five years of semi-pro football with the Tampa Rangers while juggling family obligations, college, and a professional career in plumbing. One of the founding members and former Chairman of the Hillsborough High School Football Hall of Fame, Wayne continues to offer his time and services to the Terriers and several charitable organizations.
