Gaspar "Vic" Vaccaro was a city, county and state champion in football; a city, county and Big Ten champion in basketball and a participant in baseball and track while at Hillsborough High School. He earned Football Letters in 1942 and 1943; received the Guy Toph Trophy in 1943. After graduating from Hillsborough Vic entered the U.S. Navy and served for 2 years. While in the military he played quarterback for the Miami Training Center against other service teams laden with college players. Upon completion of his tour of duty in the U.S. Navy he was awarded a scholarship to play football at the University of Florida in 1946. While he was a Gator he played fullback, guard, end and quarterback from 1946-1949 and in each year he earned a letter varsity letter. He graduated in 1949 and immediately took a coaching position at Miami Beach High School. He soon became the head coach and remained at the school until he retired after 20 years of coaching service.
