Hillsborough football hall of fame

Norman Pettigrew was a Fullback and Tailback on two undefeated 1944-45 HHS Teams and played tailback and safety in the 8-2 season of 1946. Highly honored member of the H club; 1947 Class Notable; City, County, Big Ten and state Football Champions in 1944-45; All City, All County and All State Football Teams. Norman received a full football scholarship to Clemson A&M College to play for Head Coach Frank Howard and Backfield Coach “Goat” McMillan. Played fullback 1947, 1948, & 1949 and they won 1948 Gator Bowl and 1949 Orange Bowl.

After his football career concluded, Norman received 2nd Lieutenant Commission in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer and while stationed with the Japan Construction Agency, in Tokyo, Japan a Letter of Commendation was received from Col. Kirkpatrick, Commanding Officer for his design research work for a Mary Knoll Catholic Hospital in Pusan, Korea. From 1958 – 1966 was employed as Assistant to M.M. Funderburk, Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for Hillsborough County Schools. From 1966 – 1971 was employed as School Planner for Broward County Schools. From1971 – 1987 was employed as Director of School Planning for Hillsborough County School District. During this time 93 major Planning Projects for new schools and/or major additions and remodeling. One of these projects was the Remodeling and Renovation of Hillsborough High. He was a member of the: American Institute of Architects, President of Construction Specifications Institute, and President of Bromeliad Guild of Tampa Bay. He graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor of Architecture.
